355 days ago, Disney announced that they would acquire Lucasfilm for over $4b. Since then, plans have been put in place to release a new Star Wars film each year from 2015 onward, starting with Star Wars: Episode VII (directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Michael Arndt from a story by George Lucas) and including standalone and/or “origin” stories in addition to films in the saga proper. Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan is involved in these new projects, as is Simon Kinberg, who is also involved in Star Wars: Rebels, a new animated series from Kinberg, Greg Weisman and Dave Filoni (of Star Wars: The Clone Wars fame) set to debut in 2014.
Lucasfilm seem to be winding back the clock. Is this October 2013 or October 1984? Not only do we have a sequel to Return of the Jedi on the horizon, we also have an animated series set five years prior to the original Star Wars approaching fast. In addition, three novels and three comic series set either before or after the original Star Wars will have seen release in 2013, as will a graphic novel set immediately prior to Return of the Jedi.
If you’re a fan of classic Star Wars, it’s a great time to be alive.
So what better time, then, to start a blog on all things Star Wars? It’s almost been a year and yet we know very little about what’s to come. But news is heading our way any day now.
Here’s where the fun begins…
