James Blunt on Carrie Fisher’s return: “Absolutely”

Sometimes news comes in the most unexpected places. The Project, a comedy/panel/news show here in Australia just interviewed James Blunt, who just happens to be good friends with Carrie Fisher. He was asked if she would be in Episode VII, to which he responded “Absolutely—as far as I know, she’s going to be in the new Star Wars.” And he didn’t appear to be joking, either.

The video can be found here, but I’m not sure if it works outside Australia.

Anyway, Fisher herself has playfully not-quite confirmed her return in the past. Indeed, George Lucas did the same back in March:

Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ ” He pauses. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

So this is not an Earth-shattering revelation. But it is perhaps the first fairly solid indication we’ve gotten from a public (albeit second-hand) source.
