Today Bleeding Cool are reporting that Marvel’s Star Wars comics will be announced in July, specifically the week prior to the San Diego Comic Con (which starts on 25 July). How many titles will there be? Two, apparently.
The first title seems obvious: a comic set around Rebels somehow. Would they dare set the second title after Return of the Jedi? Presumably by next year they’ll have a clear enough idea about Episode VII that they’ll be able to write around it, even if it’s still set 30 years prior. Then again, it may be the continuing adventures of Jaxxon the space rabbit. (One can only hope.)
The final issues of Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars titles will see release in August, including Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, the only comic to be retained by the new canon. This will be the end of an era. By September, a “new dawn” will begin with the Rebels tie-in novel, followed by the Rebels series itself in October and the Tarkin novel in November.
Also in November we’re rumoured to see the re-release of episodes I-VI on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download in the lead-up to Christmas. And the more I think about it, the more I believe the theatrical versions of Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will be included. How else are they going to get people to re-purchase these films in HD?
And then, in 2015, Marvel’s first Star Wars comics in 29 years will see release. It’s been a long, long time…
