Lucasfilm announce Strange Magic

Lucasfilm have announced their first feature to be released since the Disney buyout: Strange Magic, a fantasy musical directed by sound design maestro Gary Rydstrom, will hit cinemas in January next year, and is based on a story by George Lucas, inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

What’s notable is that it will be released by Touchstone Pictures, the brand Disney use when they’re pretending they’re not Disney. The Force Awakens may or may not be released under the Touchstone banner, but I suspect the Disney logo will be nowhere to be seen on the film itself. If they won’t attach their name to a Lucasfilm-produced animated feature, they almost certainly won’t attach it to a live-action Star Wars feature.
