Thanks to Marvel.com, here we get a glimpse at the art from the first issue of Star Wars: Darth Vader, as well as a synopsis for the series.
Immediately. this art recalls the original trilogy (perhaps because it seems to very closely reference Luke’s arrival at Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi). What’s interesting is that Bib Fortuna seems not to recognise Vader until he ignites his lightsaber, which may at long last settle the debate as to whether or not “Darth Vader” is a household name in the galaxy.
In interviews, writer Kieron Gillen indicated that Vader will rebuild his powerbase after the destruction of the first Death Star by relying heavily on the galaxy’s underworld figures. Well, here Vader is, already meeting with Jabba the Hutt.
Judging by the art alone, this comic looks glorious. It’s certainly the series I’m most excited about.
Anyway, here’s the synopsis:
Ever since Darth Vader made his first on-screen appearance, he became the one of the most popular villains to ever haunt an audience’s dreams! Now, follow Vader straight from the ending of “Star Wars: A New Hope” (and the pages of the new STAR WARS comic book) into his own series, showing the Empire’s war with the Rebel Alliance from the other side! Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larroca bring us a peek behind the mask of evil!
