The latest Now, This is Podcasting! podcast has the scoop on the upcoming teaser for The Force Awakens. Listen for the rundown straight from the horse’s mouth, but below is a recap of all we know:
Firstly, we have confirmation that, as previously reported, John Williams recorded new music in the last day:
So odds are that the teaser will feature new music (though maybe not new leitmotifs). Edit: Devin at Badass Digest claims it starts with the Force theme played gently on woodwinds, which them moves into a full orchestral piece. This to me is a no-brainer.
Secondly, it fades in and out to various shots from The Force Awakens in a similar manner to the original “Breathing” teaser for Attack of the Clones:
It’s about the same length as well.
And thirdly, we’ll see all of the new cast from the film in the teaser. Will we see Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford? The assumption is yes, but nobody can or will say for certain (though we definitely will see the Millennium Falcon, which will cap it off).
Edit: Devin adds that a female voice, most likely that of Daisy Ridley, says “Wake up”, before we see the title card and the Millennium Falcon blasting towards us. Jason at Making Star Wars breaks it down, in no particular order: Dunes, John Boyega in white stormtrooper armour, Daisy Ridley on a speeder, new stormtroopers on a transport, new X-wings, TIE fighters, the new droid, the new Sith with the crossbeam lightsaber and finally the Falcon. I’d guess it’s dreamlike, starting gently and serenely with the Force theme playing, before becoming much more intense until we see the Sith as Williams’ music builds to a crescendo. Finally… “Wake up.” Then, the Falcon. Titles. Fade out.
If the teaser is ready in the next few days, it’ll be attached to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (which opens on the 20th of this month) in order to reach the same demographic (since Daisy Ridley’s character will almost certainly be the protagonist of The Force Awakens). Otherwise, it’ll debut during the mid-season finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on December 16 which (perhaps not coincidentally) is the day preview screenings for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies begin. (However, a third possibility is that it’ll initially be attached to Disney’s Into the Woods, which opens on Christmas Day.)
The upshot is that we’ll get a teaser by Christmas at the very least and we’ll get to see the new characters in action in the process. Ridley, Boyega, Isaac—they’ll all be there.
We’re about to make the jump to hyperspace…
