On the one hand, selecting A.J. Edwards is in keeping with the current trend at Lucasfilm. Edwards is a new face with only one film under his belt as director, but he’s a protégé of Terrence Malick, and his debut feature is apparently interesting if not completely successful. He’s exactly the sort of talent that Kathleen Kennedy would want to nurture.
On the other hand, the question sounds suspicious, like it was posed by a plant. Perhaps the talks fell through and Edwards wanted his name attached to Star Wars now since he’s got nothing to lose?
In any case, it’s an interesting development.
