According to Variety, Rick Heinrichs, who was the production designer on Captain America: The First Avenger, has been booked for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Despite no official confirmation, the Variety piece again alerts us to writer/director Rian Johnson’s involvement as well.
To give you a sense of Heinrichs’ style, he has been a collaborator with Tim Burton since they met at Disney in the early ’80s; however, he has also acted as production designer on The Big Lebowski, Hulk and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, as well acting as set designer on Ghostbusters II, Joe Versus the Volcano and The Fisher King. Think “German Expressionism” and you’ll get the idea.
Episode VIII doesn’t go into production until 2016 for a projected 2017 release, but things are obviously moving forward on this second installment of the sequel trilogy.
