Has George Lucas seen the Force Awakens teaser? That bastion of journalistic integrity, the New York Post, quoted Lucas on the matter of the teaser thusly:
I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet… Because it’s not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there. I plan to see it when it’s released.
Astonishing! He clearly hates the way Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan have betrayed his vision!
Or not. Let’s not forget a few things here. One, Lucas is now 70. Two, he’s newly married with a new baby. Three, he’s currently focused on the development of the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum in Chicago. And four, he has enough respect for Kennedy et al that he’s not going to tread on their toes by commenting on the project every time he’s asked. Even his approval gives the impression that his opinion should be deferred to.
Update: A Lucasfilm representative told ABC News…
“It is true — he has not seen the trailer,” the rep said. “He ideally would love not to see any footage until he walks into the theater next December. He has never been able to be surprised by a Star Wars film before and he said he was looking forward to it.”
(Note that ABC is owned by Disney.)
On a more positive note, artist Timothy McGraw has just updated his site with an amazing piece of fan art that blows out of the water everything else I’ve seen in response to the teaser:
