TV Guide have posted the exclusive news that Yoda, voiced by Frank Oz, will feature on the next episode of Rebels, set to air on January 5. The twist? It’ll only be Yoda’s voice, and the Jedi Master will not be seen. Apparently he’ll be offering counsel to Kanan and Ezra.
There has already been debate in fan circles regarding the mere existence of Kanan, pointing out that, on his deathbed, Yoda tells Luke that he will be the last of the Jedi. On the general topic of continuity, however, Dave Filoni is quoted as saying the following:
“This show is meant to fit in with everything that’s going on: Clone Wars, features, novels,” Filoni says. “We do a lot of work to make sure there’s continuity between these things now.”
This episode of Rebels, titled “Path of the Jedi”, will specifically contain references to The Empire Strikes Back and the final episodes of The Clone Wars—presumably the superb Yoda arc, which featured Dagobah and touched on larger issues regarding the Force.
This is now the third actor from the films to return for Rebels, with both Anthony Daniels (as C-3PO) and James Earl Jones (as Darth Vader) making appearances earlier this season. Now they can add Frank Oz as Yoda to the list.
